18th Annual Indian Land Consolidation Symposium
"Protecting Our Land and Resources"

The 18th Annual Conference theme “Protecting Our Lands & Resources” places special focus on the importance of developing and implementing protective codes and ordinances. General Sessions and 4 Break-Out Tracks will detail tribal models and initiatives, which prevent land loss; establish fair & equitable rights of way; protect water resources; and promote land recovery. Participants can expect to come away from this conference knowledgeable about the tribal ordinances and codes being successfully used in Indian Country. Topics to be discussed within these tracts include the following:

• ROW: Developing Rights of Way Ordinances To Establish Protocol, Negotiation Procedures, And Fair Market Rates; Principals of Tribally –controlled “Green” Energy Development; Intertribal Council On Utility Policy.


• WATER: Developing Water Management Plans & Codes; Water Settlement Agreements vs. Negotiation; Marketing/Leasing Water – Pros & Cons; Introduction/Strategies Of The Newly Formed IWWG.


• LAND RESTORATION: Fee To Trust; Tribal Use Of “Essential Governmental Functions” Tax Code Authority; Federal Land Transfers & Leasing Towards Future Ownership; Tribal Land Records Department.


• ALLOMENT ISSUES: Preventing Land Loss; Foreclosures; Trespass and Condemnation Actions; Accessing Records; Forming Energy Corporations; Consolidating For Home site Use.


• PROBATE: Superceding AIPRA; Confronting Secretarial Approval; Implementing Tribal Probate Codes under ILCA 2000 and AIPRA authorities.
